More Hide

It has been a month since the plastic pellet spilling over the Chi Ma Wan Peninsula, however, our volunteers. Some of them even join us every time. This Sunday(2/9), nearly 200 people gathered at the Clock Tower to take the ferry to Chi Ma Wan to clean the pallet. Our volunteers were divided into three teams to carry out pallets cleaning Chi Ma Wan, Cheung Sha Wan(#9) and a near beach respectively. Though all our volunteers sweated heavily, they kept cleaning the beach without any complaint. Apart from pallet, they also picked up fishing net and other garbage and take all the plastic waste to the Star Ferry Pier for recycling.

After the efforts of Hong Kong citizens and different parties these weeks, the number of plastic pallet on the Chi Ma Wan beach has dropped significantly. There is still a small proportion of pallet in Shap Long at tidal level. The plastic pallet mainly clusters under some short trees and other coastal plants, so it is difficult to clean all these pallet, especially those areas without shadow and are seldom visited.
