Food Waste Reduction

“Food waste” refers to the daily produced leftover after meal, also food product before and after meal preparation. Food waste is organic in natural. In Hong Kong, there is 3,200 tonnes of food waste disposed, of which 70% come from household, most of them end in landfill.
The Greeners Action will hold “food wise” family competition, starting today to 31st October, 2010. Its aim is to encourage family to share with others creative methods of dealing with food waste so to reduce household food waste in the city. We will pick up the top 10 “food wise” family, awardees will be given a free natural day trip, green lunch, Towngas $600 coupon, and one mini cooker from the Midea Electric (Hong Kong) Limited.

Detail of competition
Each family is counted as one unit;
Every family has to clearly introduce their 3 “food wise methods” in 100 to 200 Chinese words or 200 to 300 English words on how to make use and distribute food so as to reduce food waste or reuse remaining raw food material. Attached photos or menu is needed.
Assessment criteria include effectiveness in reducing food waste, its usefulness and creativity.
Assessment panel may conduct surprise visit to ensure practicability.
