Entering rainy season, the Greeners Action, a local green organization, conduct survey in over 50 large-scale shopping malls and government facilities, finding nearly 90% property managements would distribute umbrella plastic bags in rainy days, on average one umbrella given out per minute, causing over 14 million umbrella plastic bags wastage for one rainy season. The wasting situation is the same for both private and public sectors, most of them not only having no encouragement of waste reduction or recycling, even worse 7% of them having staff to do the delivery.

To learn more about the situation of umbrella plastic bags usage, the Greeners Action, on 17th and 18th July, 2017, conduct survey on 53 shopping malls and government facilities in various districts. Surveyed places are 35 private property management including shopping malls and business buildings, and 18 government facilities including LCSD facilities and hospitals. The survey showed 89% of them did provide umbrella plastic bags; separately 72% government facilities and 97% of private property managements did so. There is 69% increase in related delivery in private property managements, 6.5% of them even have staff to do the delivery.
