This year is the seventh year of Greeners Action’s Lai See packet reusing program. 12 million Lai See packets were recycled over the past 6 years, which means that 636 trees are rescued from being cut. Today (16th February), Greeners Action held an opening ceremony of the program. We invited Mr Wong Kam-sing, GBS, JP, Secretary for the Environment, to be the Officiating Guest and tell the citizens to waste less and reuse things. According to a report published in January by Greeners Action, only 41% of citizens would reuse their red packets; 27% would throw them into rubbish bin or recycling boxes. This reflects the fact that our citizens’ awareness of reducing waste is low.

Greeners Action announced this year program information in today’s ceremony. 50 corporates and organizations have participated in the program. There are more than 650 recycling spots, which widely distributed in 100 shopping malls of Link Ltd., 60 HKJC off course betting branches, 60 branches of Bank of China so that citizens can participate easily. Starting from today to 4th March, red packets collection boxes will be placed in shopping malls, housing estates, banks and hotels all over Hong Kong. According to Angus Ho, the Executive Director of Greeners Action, more small sized corporates starts to contact them to get recycled red packets and they will send letters to the 18 District Councils to prevent them from printing new red packets and instead, use recycled red packets.
