The full implementation of levy scheme on plastic bag came into effect in this month, but bakery products are exempted from the regulation as they are held in non-airtight package. To encourage people to reduce unnecessary plastic bag use for bakery products, the Greeners Action pushed forward the “One plastic bag for bakery product” charter. The charter gained support of four brands, totally 15 chained bakery shops. It includes Pak Lok Bakery, Maria’s Bakery, BB BEAR and QunQunPan.
The signing charter ceremony was held in Tze Wan Shan shopping centre today, the Secretary for Environment Wong Kam Sing, together with big waster, listed out measures on reducing use of plastic bag and appealed to others in the industry to do the same to reduce plastic bag waste.

The “One plastic bag for bread” charter from the Greeners Action needs the bakery shops to do the following 3 points:
1) Additional charge of $0.5 per plastic bag on top of the first free flat-top plastic bag, while reducing the pre-packaging.
2) Additional charge of $0.5 per plastic bag on top of the first free non-airtight one (excluding use of plastic bag due to hygiene reasons).
3) Use one plastic bag to hold bakery products as far as possible.
