 The Food Waste Reduction Program of “Food Wise Hong Kong” has moved to Wong Tai Sin district this season. “Food Wise Hong Kong” is a campaign held by Greeners Action collaborating with the Environmental Protection Department. Under the support of the Wong Tai Sin District Council, Plaza Hollywood and the Link Management Limited, the program opening ceremony has been organized in Plaza Hollywood today (8th December). Before the ceremony began, “Big Waster” has been walking around and taking photos with citizens, telling them not to be a “big waster”. Moreover, ambassadors from Greeners Action has visited different participating restaurants to promote the food waste reduction program and also present awards to those Save Food Diners.

The Food Waste Reduction Program in Wong Tai Sin District will last for six months. Fifteen restaurants under Plaza Hollywood and Lok Fu Place, together with the Lok Fu Market will collect and separate food waste at source during the program. The participating restaurants include Beppu Ramen, Chao And Hak, Heichinrou Annex, Modern China Restaurant, Shabu Shabu “&” Sukiyaki, Park’n Shop, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, Sushi Dai, Xia Mian Guan and Yummy Delight. These restaurants will set up food waste collection bins in kitchens to collect pre and post consumed food waste, which will then be transferred to the Kowloon Bay Pilot Composting Plant to process and produce fertilizers. Moreover, Plaza Hollywood is going to install a composter in January 2014 to process food waste produced by the mall. It is estimated that about 100 tons of food waste can be avoided to be disposed to the landfills in half a year. Furthermore, a series of activities is organized to raise the awareness of citizens and shop tenants to reduce food waste and encourage them to changes their habits to save food.
