It is obvious that Hong Kong people love buffets and the dining style of all-you-can-eat as they can taste various kinds of cuisines at the same time. However, this dining style has encouraged customers to take more than they can eat and therefore, waste a lot of food. In view of this, we have collaborated with Mou Mou Club, a Japanese Shabu Shabu restaurant, to launch a program called “Two Steps to Love the Earth” to encourage customers to eat all they have taken and reward them with coupon. Therefore, customers can practice the ways of reducing food waste and also join the army of saving food. This pioneering program among the food and beverage sector has gained support from citizens and different other sectors. We hope that this program can initiate more restaurants which provide all-you-can-eat dining to organize similar programs to reduce food waste.

Starting from 12th November, the eight stores under Mou Mou Club will carry out the “Two Steps to Love the Earth” program. Waiters will not take away used dishes on the guests’ tables unless the customer requests. This can reduce water usage due to dishwashing process. Moreover, customer can get a coupon with a discount of $10 for dinner or $5 for lunch on next purchase if they can eat all the food they have taken. This encourages customers not to waste food and also raises their awareness about the production of food waste. At the same time, Mou Mou Club will donate $5 to Greeners Action for each customer who has eaten all they had taken to support the promotion of food waste reduction, especially in promoting food waste audit, so that the sector can save food in a more effective way.
