Bring Your Own Bottle Project
Our daily liquid cleaning products are usually sold in the form of buckets and plastic bottles. All these containers are disposable and cannot be reused. Moreover, carbon dioxide is emitted and solid waste is produced during the production, transportation and the operation process. This leads to 1,694 tons of waste plastic produced in Hong Kong every day. However,by 2015, the three strategic landfills will be full and these disposable containers, which occupy a lot of space and being difficult to be decomposed, will be no longer able to be disposed in the local landfills.
Therefore,Greeners Action has promoted a campaign called “Bring Your Own Bottle” (BYOB) which allows citizens to bring their own bottles to get refill when they purchase liquid cleaning products and encourages reusing containers to reduce waste. The campaign can not only reduce disposable containers being thrown to the landfills but also provide an alternative to the consumers to use less plastic bottle.
