The Environmental Bureau finally unveiled the “Hong Kong Blueprint for Sustainable Use of Resources 2013 – 2022” on 20th May. The Blueprint maps out a comprehensive target and route for waste management and it suggests to tackle the imminent waste problem through policies and legislation to drive behavioural changes to reduce waste at source, targeted territory-wide waste reduction campaigns to arouse public awareness and enhancement of waste-related infrastructure. Through these three aspects, it is hoped that the waste disposal reduction target will achieve 40 percent by 2022.

Greeners Action welcomes the Blueprint, the policies and schedule on implementation of levy scheme on municipal solid waste and its focus on reducing waste at source. However, although the Blueprint has a clear waste disposal reduction target, there is no details for implementation and execution. Therefore, Greeners Action has raised three main suggestions to achieve sustainable waste management. For more details, please refer to the press release.
