In order to understand the view of each candidate in two important issue (the implementation of waste charging scheme and the expansion of the third runway), Greeners Action has written to all the candidates of the Legislative Council Election this month. Overall, 111 candidates (51%) in the geographical constituencies support the implementation of per-bag was charging scheme. At the same time, only 55 candidates (25%) support the suspension of the expansion project of the Third Runway while 64 candidates (30%) object the suspension. This reflects that although the candidates are more likely to support the waste charging scheme, most of them still believe that developing infrastructure can bring economic benefits to Hong Kong. It is hoped that these statistics can be a reference for Hong Kong citizens when they are deciding to vote for a candidate who care the environmental development in Hong Kong.

Greeners Action has written to all the candidates of the Legislative Council Election (including geographical constituencies, District Council (Second) in the functional constituencies and other functional constituencies ), inquiring whether they support the per-bag waste charging scheme and other suggestion on various policies. The suggestions include objection on building incinerators and expanding landfills before the implementation of any waste reducing and recycling measures and the waste charging scheme, reforming the roadside waste collection system, adopting rubbish bins with the integration of recycling materials and collecting trash, increasing recycling rate, preventing illegal disposal and demanding the government to provide a fixed amount of free rubbish bags or allowance to CSSA recipients in order to assist low income citizens and provide initiatives for them to reduce wastes.

Within the geographical constituencies, 111 candidates(51%) support the implementation of per-bag was charging scheme; 8 candidates(4%) against the implementation while 97 candidates(45%) did not respond. It reflects that the candidates and the society mostly consent that Hong Kong should implement waste charging scheme and conduct on revolution on policies upon waste disposal so that more waste can be recycled and the amount waste disposed can be reduced. Both the Democratic Party and Civic Party support the implementation of per-bag was charging scheme. They also share similar thoughts with environmental groups in terms of the details when implementing the scheme. On the contrary, the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong only supports the scheme to a certain extent but they also share similar thoughts with environmental groups on returning rates and excluding CSSA recipients in the scheme. The Liberal Party is against the waste charging scheme, thinking that only encouragement on citizens to reduce and recycle waste is required.
