“Food Wise Student” scheme totally reducing 7600 tonnes of food waste, awardees sharing “Food Wise” tips 03rd May, 2012
Hong Kong student produce 100 tonnes of food waste every day. The Greeners Action, in this year, organized the one-year-lasting “Food Wise Student” scheme, to educate and cultivate student “Food Wise” habit through different activities. 27 primary schools with 14,000 students participated in the scheme, number of students achieving the goal thus certificated reached near 4,000, and the whole scheme is of good outcome, which at least reduced 7,600 tonnes of food waste and help student to gradually develop “Food Wise” habit.
The award ceremony was held on 3rd May in Shek Lei Catholic Primary School, announcing the effectiveness in reducing food waste of the plans, and awarding the top 5 schools which reached target according to the amount of food waste they reduced. Schools were invited to share their related learnings. The EPD assistant director doctor Chan Ying Lung and the Greeners Action chief Ho Hon Wai talked about Hong Kong policies and ways to deal with food waste.
