To promote and encourage colleges to sustain the “save food day” , Greeners Action invited them to sign the “Reducing Food Waste Charter” which targets to reduce 5% of food waste in the coming year. We held its signing ceremony at City University of Hong Kong on 25th March 2011. We even invited Yau Tang-wah, Secretary for the Environment, and Leung Chun-ying, Council Chairman of City University of Hong Kong, to attend the ceremony. Representatives from 11 participating colleges signed the charter on that day and showed their concern on the food waste problem and the determination to reduce food waste.

Apart from the Charter, Greeners Action would hold a “Save Food Ambassador” training program from April to July. Its purpose is to enable students to have a deeper understanding and experience on food waste and its processing. We hope to recruit more than 80 students from different tertiary institutions and provide activities with both theories and practices to them, for example: holding talks to investigate food waste in Hong Kong, visiting food waste recycling plants and organizing study tours etc.
