Food Wise Day – Promotion in Causeway Bay
The Greeners Action held the “food wise day HK”, pushing ahead of food waste separation at source for the daily 3000 tonnes of food waste problem. Starting 3rd March, 2010, total there are 54 cateries and enterprises, over 220 shops participating in it. For every “less rice” purchase of designated food by reducing amount of rice by one third in Wednesday, one dollar discount will be offered.
To strengthen promotion, we delivered “food wise” sticker on 18th May, 2010, encouraging eateries not yet participated to take note of the food waste problem and join the “food wise” group. We had visit in Tai Hing siu mei restaurant to see effectiveness of the programme and seeking people’ support. The vice manager of the restaurant said in the past two months, staff actively introduced to customers about “food wise day” and encouraged them to cherish food. For example, customers could order “less rice” according to their needs. Survey shows on average one in five customers ordered “less rice”, the trend is on the rise too.
