The situation of using umbrella plastic bag in Hong Kong shopping malls is serious, from the survey we conducted in previous months, it was found that over 60% of interviewees would use disposable umbrella plastic bag, leading to wastage. We are glad that the Sino group is concerned about the environmental problem and willing to take the lead to reduce using umbrella plastic bag by practical alternatives. We hope other shopping malls will follow suit and encourage people to dry their umbrella before entering shopping malls or use several times the umbrella plastic bag.

The shopping malls under Sino group’s management are Olympic City, Tuen Mun Town City, China Hong Kong City, Tsim Sha Tsui Centre, Empire Centre Shopping Arcade and Skyline Tower. They have already fully implemented “Reducing use of umbrella plastic bag plan”, in which staff will be deployed to dry umbrellas or only provide small number of environmentally-friendly materials for wet umbrella, for making green and caring service. All series of shopping malls will within month fully follow suit and gradually implement the plan, hoping to reduce number of umbrella plastic bag by 60% or above. The plan will be pushed ahead to residentials under Sino management for promoting green living.
