The Greeners Action has been encouraging people and business trade to bring their own bag and reduce use of plastic bag respectively. To suppress the abuse of plastic bag, the government implemented in 2009 the “Plastic bag levy scheme”, however only 4% of retail stores in the territory are covered under the scheme. To allow more retails to participate, we cooperated with the Hong Kong General Chamber of pharmacy, for the first time extending to “No plastic bag day” to 200 pharmacies over the territory in order to reduce the abuse.

To allow more people to know about the details of and so to support the “No plastic bag every Tuesday” in pharmacies, the Greeners Action held an opening ceremony, for which assistant director of EPD Mr. LEE Koon yan and the chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Pharmacy Mr. Hui siu man were invited. They promoted to the public the importance of “Plastic bag-free” ahead of the scheme. Green ambassador Ms. Lee Heung kam, Mr. Wong Wan Choi and Ms. Kayi Cheung gave their shows and played games with people to spread out green message. After the opening ceremony, together we went to pharmacies nearby to appeal people to support the “No plastic bag every Tuesday”.
