 The Greeners Action held the “Food Wise Day” across the territory, from February to October 2009. Every first Wednesday in the month is set to be the “Food Wise Day”, in which customers could receive $1 discount from the participated eateries by ordering “less rice” meant one-third reduction of original amount of rice. The campaign aims at encouraging people to order food according to their need. Today is the opening ceremony of the campaign. The Greeners Action invited the Secretary of Environment Edward YAU as guest, who officially started the campaign together with the chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurant Mr. LOK Kwok on and various representatives of participating eateries.

To enhance the public awareness of cherishing food resource and cultivate public value of food waste reduction at source so to live green, the Greeners Action, after two-year of striving, gained sponsor of The Environment and Nature Conservation Fund to support the “Food Wise Day” across the territory. This campaign has gained great support of the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurant as well as participation of 160 eateries of different categories. They include fast food chain, eastern and western; tea restaurants etc. The Greeners Action said the number of active participation of eateries has over expectation by 3 fold, showing good response from society and food industry.
