The Greeners Action, in August, unveiled the result of survey on the use of umbrella plastic bag in related property management, it was found that near 90% of property managements will deliver umbrella plastic bag in rainy days, in only one rainy season there are over 14 million umbrella plastic bags generated. In view of this, we invited a number of property management to join the “Reducing use of umbrella plastic bag” certification scheme, only for two months there are 15 shopping malls have passed our audit by showing their support and making related improvement. Result of the scheme was announced in 29th September, 2017, at the same time praised outstanding property managements, totally there are 8, 3 and 4 of them gaining gold, silver and bronze models respectively, one of which even won the creativity promotion prize.

The Greeners Action invited a number of property management to join the “Reducing use of umbrella plastic bag” certification scheme after surveying in order to make them aware the environmental problem. There are alternatives to replacing use of umbrella plastic bags, for example setting up blower, umbrella frame, umbrella plastic bag recycling points, and manpower for drying wet umbrella etc. There are three award levels for this scheme, gold, silver and bronze. Apart from encouraging property management to adopt different ways to reduce umbrella bags, we also asked them to promote to raise the public awareness, letting people to understand the importance of environmental protection by reducing umbrella plastic bag. Upon the receiving of application form, we will conduct environmental audit on the shopping malls, knowing how its facilities operate and thus make practical suggestions. Parties fulfilling the requirements of the scheme will be given certification labels for them to post at visible positions for public recognition.
