After years of our hard work in putting pressure on the authority, the producer responsibility scheme (PRS) on plastic bag finally comes to effect forming an important milestone of Hong Kong environmental protection. The first phase of the scheme covers over 3,000 retail points in supermarkets, convenience stores, healthcare shops, cosmetics etc. The move is effective proven by the Environmental Protection Department’s figure that shows a significant drop in number of disposal in landfills in 2010.
