"No More Plastic Action @Yuen Long" was sponsored by HKEX Impact Funding Scheme. The first phase started on April 1 and ended on June 30, 2022. After registering, the public can download a $20 coupon to get a 20% discount at 20 restaurants in Yuen Long when they order takeout. Each person can only redeem once.

To redeem the $20 coupon, the public must order no less than $30 takeaway and bring their own lunchboxes, and cups, and reject all disposable plastic utensils, straws, and plastic bags. We wish that not only reduce waste at source but also support local restaurants. Over 2000 people redeemed the coupon during the program.

"No More Plastic Action @Yuen Long" phase 2 starts from 1 Jul 2022 to 31 Mar 2023. The public can enjoy $4 discount when they order no less than $30 takeaway at 30 designated restaurants. They can bring their own lunchboxes, cups, and rejecting all disposal plastic utensils, straws and plastic bags. Unlimited discount use is allowed.

To reach more residents in Yuen Long, Greeners Action carried out various promotions. To attract more attention, GA had invited some well-known KOLs to promote the programme on social media platforms.

Dinning utensils rental programme
"Street food" hotspots in Yuen Long were found to consume a lot of disposal dining ware. As to change the habit of single-use plastic, we launched "Dinning utensils rental programme" every Saturday from Jul 2022 to Jan 2023 at Yau San Street, Yuen Long.

We lend out forks, bowls and plates for the public for free, and users will return immediately after use. Total 4547 people enjoyed our service in 25 service days.

"No More Plastic Action @Yuen Long" Elderly discount

Greeners Action found that many restaurants spontaneously provided food for the grassroots and the elderly at low prices. As a result, Greeners Action partners with one of these restaurants to provide further discounts for the elderly from July to December 2022.

Public aged 65 or above can enjoy a further $10 discount if they bring their own lunchboxes and refuse plastic utensils and bags. In this case, qualified elderly can enjoy their meal for $14. The event was widely reported by the media, thus the number of elderly participants continued to increase. There were total 9630 beneficiaries within four months. This event had effectively encourage the public to bring their own lunchboxes when buying takeaway.

"No More Plastic Action @Yuen Long" Elderly and students discount

GA noticed that the elderly reacted positively to bringing their own lunchboxes when buying takeaway. We believe that this environmentally friendly habit should be cultivated from an early age. Therefore, in addition to discounts for the elderly, we have also introduced discounts for students from mid-December 2022. Hope this can further promote the reduction of use of disposable dinningwares.

Public aged 65 or above with a senior citizen card issued by the Social Welfare Department, and students with school uniforms can enjoy a discount if they bring their bring their own lunchboxes, cups, as well as reject all disposal plastic utensils, straws and plastic bags when purchasing takeaway at five designated restaurants in Yuen Long.

This event lasted about three months, and there were total 833 elderly and students benefiting.
