Greeners Action and Environmental Organisations Submitted a Joint Policy Recommendations for the HKSAR Chief Executive's 2023 Policy Address
The Chief Executive will be announcing the lastest Policy Address on October 25. Greeners Action and other environmental organisations co-signed a joint policy recommendations urging the government to address the challenge of climate change. The recent IPCC report underscores the need for immediate, significant and sustained carbon emission reductions. Hong Kong has a critical role to play in this global effect.
The joint recommendations focus on four key areas to drive further sustainble development in Hong Kong : 1. Green and Sustainable Finance; 2. Mitigation; 3. Adaptation nand Resillience; 4. Climate Governance.
For waste management, Greeners Action urged the government to ：1) Establish a local circular economy by promoting reuse, reduction and repurposing initiatives, implementing Extended Producer Responsibility system including food waste and disposable food containers; 2) Speed up the banning of disposable plastic tableware and other plastic products by 2025; 3) Strengthen penalties and enforce regulations against illegal waste deposits ; 4) Mandate recycling in all private properties to enhance waste management efforts, and 5) Facilitate sufficient communication and education to different sectors on the best practice guides
