“Zero Food Waste Campaign” in City University started, having “Zero Food Waste Lunch” with Sugar Club 29th March, 2012
An one-and half-year-lasting “zero food waste campaign” was officially started in March, the first activity “zero food waste mascot design competition” let teachers and students to design a mascot icon for the whole campaign, this apart from allowing students to unleash creativity, it also let students engage in the activity and deepened their understanding of the problem. The “zero food waste lunch” was held in the City University, in which awarded student shared their thought with the Sugar Club being the “food wise” ambassador about the design

Every day there are 3,200 tonnes of food waste disposed of at landfills, which takes up 40% of Municipal Solid Waste dumped. Each canteen of universities and institutions, on average every day, produced as much as 45 tonnes of food waste. The Greeners Action, with the City University, supported by the Environmental and Conservation Fund, implemented the first territory-wide food waste reduction campaign in institutions. From 2012 March to 2013 July, the City University organized the “zero food waste campaign” in the campus, which included “zero food waste mascot design competition”, “food wise day”, “ food waste source separation” and “zero food waste week”. The whole plan recruited students to be ambassadors to promote in canteens the importance of reducing food waste and recycling, the Greeners Action further provide them with visits to food waste recycling stations, sharing seminars, enabling students and teachers to know more about problem of food waste and ways to deal with it.
