The Greeners Action, with the EPD and the Sun Hung Kai Properties, cooperated with the Kwun Tong district council to run a 2-year-lasting food waste reduction programme in APM shopping mall to reduce food waste holistically produced from the shopping mall. This included setting up machines, assisting in source separation, organizing excellent food waste management competition, programme sharing and visits, to enhance Kwun Tong citizens’ knowledge of reducing and recycling food waste to create a zero-food-waste community. The voting date for the 1st batch of excellent food waste management competition in catering was held today in APM shopping mall by the Greeners Action, people actively participated, about 500 people voted for their favourite green restaurants.
The first batch of excellent food waste management competition in catering was held in 15th December, 2011. Restaurants had to take measures to raise people awareness of food waste problem, through improving procuring, saving, menu design, making good use of food materials and staff cooperation to reduce food waste at source. Participating restaurants had to submit 2 ways or measures for reducing food waste (on-going or plan to go). Assessment criteria include 1. Practicability, 2. Power of advertising, 3. Creativity. The Greeners Action carried out food audit for them to find out how much they achieved. Finally, the EPD, Kwun Tong district council, Kai Sing property management limited and Greeners Action’ representatives voted out top 5 caterings winners, they included the gold, silver, bronze, most advertising and most creative awardee.
