Since 2007, the Greeners Action implemented the “Food Wise” campaign and “Food Wise” day every Wednesday to encourage and educate people to cherish resource, practicing food wise habit to reduce food waste. This successfully draws public attention. In 2008, we organized for the first time the “Food Wise Day in primary schools” to at least reduce 3.165 tonnes of food waste. For educating continuously primary school students the importance of cherishing food and being “Food Wise”, we implemented in a new year the “Food Wise Student” scheme to enable student to develop “Food Wise” habit. Representative of students and guests viewed the opening ceremony held on today (12th October, 2011) in Good Counsel Catholic Primary school.

After the implementation of “Food Wise Student” scheme, 26 primary schools with 20,000 students actively enrolled and participated in it, two more secondary schools also joined. In the opening ceremony, legislator Tanya Chan, Greeners Action Ho Hon Wai, the principal of Good Counsel Catholic Primary School Ng Lai Yung, teacher of Po Leung Kuk Centenary Li Shiu Chung secondary school Lee Yu Hang together stuck big “Food Wise” poster on the record card, symbolizing everyone’s support to the opening scheme. After that, guests led students to swear to show their determination, saying starting that day they would reduce food waste by fulfilling “Food Wise” spirit, and passing on the habit of “Food Wise” to cousins and friends to cherish food resource. Furthermore, it is the first time Legislator Tanya Chan shared with primary students her experience in reducing food waste.
