Plastic Reduction

In order to encourage people to apply the 3R (reduce, reuse and recycle) into their daily life in a comprehensive way, Greeners Action held the 1st Plastic Bags Recycling Competition among Hong Kong’s families in last October with the support of The Link RELT. Hong Kong people were invited to think of some creative, new and useful methods of reusing plastic bags. Over 200 families have participated in the Competition for two months and devised 600 methods. They are so creative to reuse the plastic bags brilliantly.

On January 10, its award ceremony was held at Lei Yue Mun Plaza. The winners taught people some creative and useful methods of reusing plastic bags. The award ceremony has presented the prizes for the champion, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up together with seven green awards. The awarded works are all useful and durable products made of disposable packaging plastic bags and shopping bags in daily life, which can utilize the materials and reduce waste of resources. This Competition was joined by families, who can remind each other of environmental protection and unleash their creativity. The participants also included some children to create different plastic stationery, such as files made of rice packets, envelopes made of instant noodles packs, white board made of plastic bags, toothpaste-shaped pencil sharpeners, pen caps and pen holders etc. The works by housewives are even more fascinating, which include scouring pads made of plastic mesh bags, shower curtain, strings for hanging clothes, simple apron, multi-functional bag, bags for clothes and sundries etc. All of them are practical, which can recycle waste and save money at the same time.
