The problem of food waste is serious in Hong Kong. There are 3,310 tonnes of food disposed into the landfills in average every day. When comparing to Taiwan, Singapore, Korea and Shanghai, our situation is more serious. Everyone wastes 0.5 kilogram of food daily in average. Wasting food would deteriorate the problem of unequal distribution of food and also increase the emission of greenhouse gases from food waste. Therefore, it would fasten climate change.

After Greeners Action cooperated with VTC for the first time in last school term to hold the activity called “Saving Food”, it would do it again this term. This time Greeners Action would co-organize with IVE, SBI, YC and other schools (16 in total) to have the second phase of “Saving Food” activity. We hoped to help teenagers nurture the habit of treasuring food. At the same time, the activity corresponded to Global Action Day on 12th December in order to raise the concern about global warming and reduce food waste. The kick-off ceremony of “Saving Food” was held on 13rd November at IVE with many guests.
