For years, the government has not implemented suitable policies to bring in supply of green lunch in campus. The Greeners Action, green charity, over the past 7 years, has been concerning about the waste problem of lunch boxes from primary schools. A disappointing survey announced in last week showed still there are 35% of primary schools using disposable lunch box, nearly no improvement compared with previous year. So, today we appealed to the public in the Mongkok pedestrian zone, letting them know how serious the problem is, and asking for their signature to urge the Education Bureau to stop using disposable lunch box.

The Greeners Action hopes, through this campaign, making a sized “NO disposable box” picture with over thousand lunch boxes in public area, public attention could be drawn to the hazard of disposable box to our environment. At the same time, we prepared a banner calling for stopping lunch box pollution, asking for people’s signatures, in order to urge the Education Burearu, within 3 years, to push forward adopting real-time rice delivery or reusable lunch box. Later, the banner was transferred to the Secretary of Education, telling him about the public concern. Also, we showed past years’ figures and information of disposable lunch boxes in primary schools.
