Waste Reduction and Recycling Works

Greeners Action together with Environmental Protection Department co-organized ‘Community Recycling Shop’ promotional day and plastic separation competition with representatives of Principle Environmental Protection Officer, Dr. Lawrence Wong, Executive Director of Greeners Action, Mr. Angus Ho Hon Wai, Executive of Yan Oi Tong, Mr. Lo Tak Ming and artist Hot Cha, to promote the idea of community recycling to the public. In the same time, the first plastic classification competition was also held to cultivate the habit of plastic recycling. A total of 10 teams from primary, secondary and tertiary school and artist guest was formed to compete in plastic separation competition and promote the information of recycling to the public.

In order to enhance the massage of waste reduction and recycle to the public, Greeners Action organized a ‘plastic classification competition’, to invite the contestants to understand the 7 different codes and types of plastic and learn the suitable type of plastic to be recycled, thus cultivate the habit of recycling plastic. Those Contestant come from Yan Oi Tong Madam Lau Wong Fat Primary School, Po Leung Kuk Wu Chung College, Hong Kong Institute of Vocation Education, City University of Hong Kong, Artist guests’ invitation team and Caring team etc, to sort the different types of plastic used in daily life and correctly recycle them into the corresponding bins with code within 1 minute in a team with 3 people. All participating team fully exerted their team spirit to compete on the stage in order to win the first, second and third place to win prizes.

The ‘Community Recycle Shop has been held for 6 consecutive months, and successfully recycle over 1,200 of plastic and promoted the massage of waste reduction and recycling to more than 32,000 public up to today. Such result depend on the support of the general public.
