The Lunar New Year is almost here. This year is the seventh year of Greeners Action’s Lai See Packet Reusing Program. And this year the number of spots of distribution of recycled red packets increases to 200. One-third are located outside the HKJC off course betting branches.
According to a report, 80% of Hong Kong citizens are willing to used recycled red packets. As our Lai See Package Reusing Program is supported by different walks of life, 20 tons (more than 6.6 million) red packets were recycled last year. It was a triple increase of the 2.2 million recycled red packets of the previous year. Nearly 3.2 million recycled red packets were distributed to the citizens after being sorted and selected by the pupils of different social welfare organizations such as The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong and the Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service. Every recycled red packet has a label of “Greeners Action - Thanks For Supporting the Lai See Packet Reusing Program”, which can bring out a positive message of recycling and also act as a recognition for citizens to identify. The Lai See Package Reusing Program has reduced 10 tons of recycled paper this year, which accounts for 1% of the total.
